Korea and Japan Trip 2016 #9 - Onsen time
15:19
Have you ever heard about Ryokan? Well actually a Ryokan is a traditional inn with typical tatami-matten rooms with sliding doors and communal baths. You may even wear a yukata. Most Ryokan offer high quality dinner and breakfast for their guests. I bet you've seen some in an anime, documentaries about Japan or even in movies. However, if you ever have the chance to stay inside a Ryokan - JUST DO IT! It's a bit pricy though but you won't regret it, trust me.
It took us about 10 long hours by train to get from Osaka to Fujikawaguchiko. First time reading the name of that town, I thought someone might have fell asleep and rolled his or her head over the keyboard while dreaming. Seriously, Fujikawaguchiko looks like a damn big typo to me!
A shuttle service picked us up from the station and brought us to the Toki Yuyu Rakuyu Ryokan. Our first impression was very good. They were really friendly, gave us grape juice and let us choose which yukata we would like to wear. Mine was light green with flowers on it, while my friend choosed a light pink one. I remember we had troubles putting these on but when we asked, a very friendly female staff came to our room and helped us with it.
Right behind the Ryokan was a small mountain which we decided to climb. It was a bit late so we had to hurry in order to get down before the darkness. Again, this was exhausting but we got a nice peek at Fuji-San and Fuji-Q Highland, a small amusement park. In the end we took too long and had to go down in the dark. We used our smartphones to lighten the path. Nevertheless, it's dangerous so be sure to hurry since in Japan it's getting dark from one second to the next.
It was dinner time when we got back and wow - this was really high quality. They served all kinds of traditional japanese food in a 10-course menu. I wish I could turn back time to eat it over and over again.
What do you do with a full belly? Chill. That's when we decided to check out the Onsen. An Onsen is a traditional japanese hot spring. We loved it, since you could watch the stars and even Fuji-San while bathing. Aaah~
